8 ) Walk instead of using taxis
The best way to travel the world is with a sense of adventure and curiosity. Traveling can be exhilarating, interesting, frustrating at times but it always leaves you feeling alive!
Be open minded about where you visit. If your goal is learning new languages or exploring cultures then try not to set boundaries on what country or continent you want to visit based solely on language spoken there. It’s inevitable that you’ll have some struggles when traveling abroad so it’s better to make these struggles worth it.
Make a list of your top five dreams, goals and interests that you want to explore on this adventure. You can also use this opportunity to find out some things about yourself by making a bucket list with activities you would like to do in order of priority. Once you have done this, cross off items as they are completed or scratch them if they’re not attainable now but may be in the future so plan ahead!
Go armed with knowledge beforehand whether it is through reading books about different cultures before going there, listening to podcasts about the country or travelling with someone who has been there before.
Think about what you want from your trip and make a list of all those things that are important to you (this could be visiting family in another country, going on safari, doing volunteer work) then book accommodation accordingly. If it’s more cost effective to stay somewhere near an airport because flights will be cheaper rather than living by the beach, do it! The point is not always just riding waves but finding out new things while exploring other cultures.
Look into which countries offer visas upon arrival so that you can have more flexibility on where you want to go and experience.
If you are carrying any valuables with you, make copies of them (passports, credit cards) ̶ preferably not in just one place but two or three so they’re safe in case something happens. It’s also a good idea to photocopy your passport pages if it is still valid because there might be some blank pages at the end that could contain important information about visas for countries visited while abroad. Keep these photocopies separate from the original copy this way they cannot get mixed up!
Always carry a photocopy of your passport with you, store it in a travel wallet and make sure to keep the original copy somewhere safe.
The weight on your back will get lighter and easier as time goes by but carrying around too much from day one is not advised when traveling, it’s simply unnecessary. When packing, be mindful that some things can’t be replaced so don’t take them unless necessary (most importantly this includes passports!) also remember to pack more underwear than anything else because washing clothes while away isn’t always easy!
Keep an open mind! Be willing to try new things and be open-minded when thinking about the struggles that may come with traveling.
Remember these tips as you plan your trip because they can help any traveler get more out of their journey!
