Well, we couldn’t be more completely honest. We know that people working in the industry, especially in games, are often jerks who do not care about anyone but themselves, or who are so self-involved that they are actively trying to ruin other people’s lives. Games are a lot like any other industry, and the way you are treated (or not treated) in a job is a great indicator of how your colleagues are treating you.
The problem is that most of us are only aware of the negative impact we have on the people we interact with in the industry. We don’t know that we’re hurting ourselves at work, or that we’re hurting other people. This is because most of us are so busy with our own lives that we have no time to think about the consequences of what we do. We are so involved in our own personal lives that we don’t even know how to look at how our actions are hurting others.
So, it’s a bit of a shame that our day-to-day work, especially marketing, has such a bad reputation in the industry. But it really is as a case of our own ignorance regarding the consequences of our actions. However, we should be aware of why this is. The reason why it is so difficult to accept that you are harming others is because we tend to think that the consequences of our actions are so terrible that there’s no point in even trying to do them.
In this article I’ve talked about how we create a society where people don’t have to take responsibility for their own actions. This is one of the reasons I became a “manager” of a large company. The more senior you are, the more you become responsible for the actions of others. The more senior you are the more you learn that the people are people and that you can’t be in charge of them.
That is why many managers are so incredibly boring I think. The only thing I can think of is that managers often don’t like the feeling of responsibility. And the only thing I can think of is that they get to keep their boring job.
