This month I spoke with an online retailer of greeting cards on their booth at the 2012 Midwest Card Show. The show features over 700 vendors, each one offering their own unique style and theme. I was really impressed with the variety of new items that were on display. I had the pleasure of speaking with the owner, Nicole, who was eager to share her favorite items. My favorite thing that she brought to my attention was the “self-awareness” piece.
The greeting card industry is a very important industry. There are a ton of people who make a living out of greeting cards, and most of us are aware that we are part of a business that is very important to the world. I’ve written before about how I think that it’s important to be aware of our impact on the world, and I personally think that we have a responsibility to make sure that we are using our marketing skills to positively influence the world around us.
Printing is a huge part of that influence. Not only is printing the most common way to print greeting cards, but the industry has been pretty good about keeping a few good, long-term strategies in place, and we have a pretty good track record to show for it. You’re probably aware that many of the most popular greeting card companies (both national and international) use a lot of social media. They post their designs on social media and ask people to spread the word about them.
When I first started printing, I was taught the importance of social media. It became my job to try to keep my designs up to date on social media and talk with people about them. This year alone, I have attended four conferences and spoken at six, not to mention had a ton of meetings with people from card companies, social media influencers, retailers, design companies, PR agencies, and marketing firms.
At this conference, I was fortunate enough to meet a number of people who were starting or have recently finished a new print and packaging company. The one thing that’s always made them most nervous is making sure that they don’t get a bad reputation with their customers or with their competitors. I had to explain to them that I was not making them any money and that the only reason I was even showing up was to make sure that they had something to promote that I could sell.
Printing and packaging is an extremely competitive market (or at least that’s how it was to me), and the best way to get the word out about your company and your products is to have something that you can sell.
If you are a good at what you do, this is one of the easiest ways to get noticed. Everyone is a salesperson in this industry, and everyone is looking to make a profit with customers. If you have something that can be bought and sold as a product, you can be sure that people will buy it, and that they will not only buy it, but they will be proud to tell their friends and neighbors about it. You can even get paid handsomely for doing so.
But if you aren’t good at it, if you can’t sell it, if you can’t sell it as a product, then you aren’t that good. So one of the easiest ways to be noticed is to be a good salesman.
Like most industries, the printing industry is one where there are a lot of people who dont really care about whether or not you are making money. It’s also one where many people have the same idea about who is good at selling but have no idea what the real requirements are. But if you want your business to grow, you must work on selling, and your best bet is to learn how to sell.

The printing industry is one of those industries. In fact, the industry is one of those industries that has a lot of companies that have very different ideas of what is good, but that do not really care about each other.
