I’m not entirely sure the exact answer here, but I think that the eps12 v standard is the most popular among motherboard manufacturers. It’s not to say that it’s the standard, just that it’s the most popular. I’ve heard of other companies that have their own standards, but they don’t have eps12 v in their stock.
Im not really sure why there is such a split between the two standards. Maybe its because the people who make the most money are the ones who can spend a few thousand dollars on the most exotic parts. There are a lot of companies that specialize in high-end motherboards and power supplies. But in the end the end user wants something that looks good, is powerful enough, and has a good warranty. Im not seeing a huge difference between the two standard.
This is because the “v” in eps12 v is not really a letter. It’s an anagram of the letter V. But it stands for a very specific type of power supply, called a “v-supply” or a “v+supply” and not a standard power supply. In other words, it is the exact same PSU as standard, but costs more, has more features, and needs a few more screws.
The power supplies used in computers and other electronics are standardized by the standards committees. One of these standards is called a USB power supply. It is one of the most popular standards of all because the USB standard is only a few years old and has been copied by millions of other products. The power supplies used by the USB standard are called v-supplies. So to call one of these power supplies a v-supply is very misleading and is not accurate.

I’ve never seen anyone use an eps12 v power supply as the standard power supply.
It should be mentioned that eps12 is NOT the same as eps12 v. It is not an upgrade from the standard three-pin power supply. We use the three-pin connector type power supply because if we could upgrade to the eps12 v standard power supply, we would have to spend a pretty penny on the power supply, which we like to have a lot of.
So how do we like the new eps12 v power supply? It looks very sleek, feels very solid, and isn’t all that expensive. We have yet to test it, but i’m going to assume that it works just as well as the other two-pin power supplies.
