But the hair industry says it’s okay to take things like that as a compliment, not a condemnation. I’m hoping this is just a case of the hair industry going all out.

If you’re a clothes person, then you can buy your clothes like a dress. So the industry wants you to make money. Just because you’re a hair person doesn’t mean you should have to wear the same hair every day.
Hair and clothes are not the same thing. Hair is the soft material that we use to line up our hair into various shapes. Clothing can be any material that is used to line up our clothing into various shapes, as long as it has the ability to be pulled on like a hair.
